I like the thick borders and strong purple and beige palette. Makes for a solid illustration. Flame on!
Navratil explains the layout a bit:
For such a heavy band they have some of the most beautiful melodic parts in their songs, which are the most memorable to me. That is the mood I wanted to capture in the album design. Darker, but visually beautiful. With the album title hinting at spirituality I also wanted to show it with the art (hence the girl holding the flame). Says faith but still can be interpreted in many ways.

I see some possible Baizley inspiration in the way the flowers are illustrated. I guess we’re going to start seeing more and more illustrators picking up that style.
Imitation is the best form of flattery I guess.

Posted 29 May 2008 at 11:04 am ¶I wonder if Baizley may have picked it up from somewhere else. I’m very art history/movement-ignorant, so I don’t know nothin’.
Posted 29 May 2008 at 11:35 am ¶Baizley’s art is most definitely inspired by the art deco movement, so there are some definite influences there. I’ve seen several people illustrate in the same way, just nowhere near as good as him.
And yeah radar, the upper half of this thing looks very disjointed from the bottom in detail. The top looks like fan-art.
